The TT Sustainability Conference also held workshop discussion groups and the following topics were addressed:

  • Regional grid interconnection
  • Energy efficiency and electricity pricing (T&T focus)
  • Reducing venting/flaring and CCUS (T&T focus)
  • Emergent tech: new wave, ocean, tide currents
  • Emergent tech: new biofuels and low carbon fuels
  • Green hydrogen as a transition mechanism in T&T and the Caribbean
  • Climate and clean energy financing
  • People, capacity and skills development

Melanie Chen was on the IDB led team presenting on “Regional Grid Integration” that was chosen as the most popular topic to be pursued.  The message from the workshop team was that regional integration should be approached in stages by analysing:

  • Southern Caribbean: Guyana, Suriname and T&T
  • OECS
  • Northern Caribbean

After these modules were analysed, then a regional interconnection analysis should then be undertaken to see if it is feasible to interconnect the entire region.
