Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL 2025)

In late March 2025, CEC Chair Melanie Chen attended SEforALL in Barbados where she met up with Aminu Umar-Sadiq, CEO of the Nigerian Soverign Investment Authority (NSIA).

It was impressive to hear about Nigeria’s Carbon Mapping Activation Plan (CMAP) and the co-ordination among the various entities to accelerate the energy transition in Nigeria. There are some lessons that can be learned by the Caribbean especially the strategic role that NSIA plays in both strategy and implementation, in addition to providing guarantees and taking equity positions if needed.

Jon Creyts, CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute, also gave a very good presentation on energy efficiency (see selected slides below) which is a larger contributor to emissions reduction than renewables generation rollout but receives less attention and focus. CEC has very aligned views which is why one of our key priorities is energy efficiency for the Caribbean (as described further below).
